Phone Calls & Appointments
If you are calling about a problem that may need attention that day please inform the receptionist, who will either schedule an appointment for you, or if indicated, refer your call to our nursing staff.
We reserve time in our schedule each day for patients with acute problems. If your primary care physician is not available, we will schedule your appointment with another physician in the group. Since our records are electronic, the physician you are scheduled with will have access to your medical record regardless of the office you are seen at.
For other matters, please provide as much information as possible so our receptionist can best direct your call or handle your request. Calls for medication renewals and routine questions should be made to our Saranac Lake office since we have more staff available to answer calls and handle your request.
Our phone nurses are available in our Saranac Lake office to answer routine medical questions and help with minor problems. If they are not available to take your call, please leave a brief message with our reception staff along with a phone number where you can be reached during the day. Calls concerning routine non-urgent matters are returned within 24 hours.
Requesting An Appointment
Please call in advance for routine appointments and physicals.
For acute problems, call as early in the day as possible. Our reception staff will ask the nature of your problem to appropriately schedule your appointment. If you feel you need to be seen that day or immediately, please be sure to convey this to our staff.
Our schedule is planned to accommodate same day appointments for acute problems and quite often, we can offer same day appointments for routine visits as well. Please call our office before presenting to the emergency room or urgent care facility for non-emergent problems.
As a group practice, our physicians work closely together, cover for each other, and share hospital-rounding responsibilities for the practice. One of our physicians is always available during regular office hours if you have a problem that requires attention that day.
If you are having a medical emergency – please call 911 or go directly to the emergency room.
We allow additional time for annual physicals, well-child visits and complicated problems. Please be sure to inform our receptionist if you are scheduling a physical or if you feel you require additional time with your physician. For adult patients, please bring all medications you are currently taking with you to your visit along with a list of any over-the-counter medication you take.
Well Child & Well Teen Exams
After age 2 we recommend children and teens be seen annually for a preventive visit. This allows us to monitor growth and address any age specific issues.
It has been our experience that many adolescents and teens are more comfortable with a physician of the same sex. Our physicians are sensitive to this issue and after the age of 12, if your child wishes, routine yearly visits can be scheduled accordingly.
Please note: many insurance plans only cover one preventive visit in a 12-month period. Check when scheduling to be sure it has been a full year since the last preventive visit.
